Do i need a BAL Assessment
If you’re a property owner looking to build or add an extension, subdivide your property, or simply adding a deck or patio, if you are located in a bush fire prone area, chances are you will more than likely require a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessment.
What is a BAL Assessment
A BAL Assessment measures the buildings potential exposure to ember attack, radiant heat and direct flame contact in a bushfire and provides the necessary measures for establishing construction requirements to improve the buildings rating against bushfire attack.

BAL - LOW
There is insignificant risk to warrant specific construction requirements however, ember attack may still occur
BAL - 12.5
Primary risk of ember attack.
BAL - 19
Increasing levels of ember attack and burning debris ignited by wind borne embers; increased exposure to radiant heat.
BAL - 29
Increasing levels of ember attack and burning debris ignited by wind borne embers; increased exposure to radiant heat
BAL - 40
Increasing levels of ember attack and burning debris ignited by wind borne embers, together with increasing exposure to radiant heat and with the increased likelihood of exposure to flames.
BAL - FZ (Flame Zone)
Direct exposure to flames from fire is likely with high levels of radiant heat exposure and ember attack.
